IGP Urges Coordination with Police for Planned Protests

ABUJA, July 30, 2024  — The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, held a virtual meeting with legal luminaries Femi Falana (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), and members of the Take It Back Movement to discuss the group's upcoming nationwide protests. 

In the meeting, the IGP underscored the necessity of public order and safety during the protests, affirming the group's right to peaceful assembly. He advised the movement to liaise with respective State Police Commissioners to ensure the protests are well-coordinated and safe for all participants. 

Egbetokun emphasized that unplanned and open processions could pose significant risks. He urged the group to work closely with police and security agencies to mitigate these dangers, protect participants' rights, and ensure the protests proceed peacefully.

The IGP reaffirmed the police force's commitment to safeguarding citizens' rights and called for collaboration among stakeholders to maintain a peaceful environment during the demonstrations.
